Milford Green F.C. v Guildford Rangers
31st August 2008
This the second of two pre-season thrillers on the milford green schedule was another turn up for the books, as a promotion seeking side from the league below, Guildford rangers laid a haymaker on to the chin of Milford Green. The travelling guildford side had a terrific start scoring twice in the first thirty minutes of a fairly one sided start. Milford's reply came after Striker Kevin Akton chased the Ball to the death, sliding at the ball when Guildford rangers Keeper Tom Jones spilt the ball and then saw red, He stamped on the veteran striker and then pushed him causing Akton to start his hardest dive yet having not quite nailed two earlier he opted for the 4 and a half backward somersault 2 and a half twist in the pike position, with a difficulty of 3.5, he did this in style with minimal splash the referee not only gave him perfect tens but he awarded Milford a penalty and sent off Goalkeeper Jones for a early shower, Top Bombing!
Scott Gifford who had come off the bench 5 mins earlier converted the penalty calmly into the bottom left hand Corner past Guildfords skipper Peter Giles who replaced the big man in Goal.
The 10 man Guildford side didn't let off in the slightest, they continued to bombard 'the Green' until half time scoring a further goal, making the scoreline 3-1 at the interval.
After The break nothing seemed to change Guildford Rangers Continued to press piling on the pressure, Sean Lee Playing in the Centre for Guildford Found himself with acres of space constantly as the Milford Green Midfield hadn't turned up until 20 minutes from the end, this mean't that he could control the game and turn provider with three assists in the Game he one the MoM for Guidford Rangers incidentally. Guildford found a fourth with little resistance from Milfords Defence again led by slipper Lee Davis. Davis was involved Milfords Second Goal however when the ball struck his back and looped over the defense in what pundits are calling the ball of the century, it quickly fell at debutant midfeilder lee Bonna's feet which he calmly netted.
The Fans thought this might be the goal needed to get 'The Green' needed to finally get going however this was not quite the case 7 minutes later a cock up by Milford Green's Keeper left the goal as exposed as a kodac moment......5-2. One Milford Green Fan had Had it by now, she threw 7 unidentified pills down her neck and ran full pelt into the goal post, She was quickly removed from the field and play resumed. This Selfless act seemed to take effect as milford came to life chance after chance after chance after chance after chance after chance sorry i got excited. Luke Dalton Picked up the ball and played the Ball top his new milfield partner Kevin Akton who played a through ball to Simon Boxall upfront, he threw his hands up aknowledging he was offside Scott gifford ran past a defense which had stopped, took the ball calmly round the temp Keeper and slotted home Milford Green Best move of the Game.
Gifford quickly turned provider when he whipped in a fantastic corner which was met superbly at the Back post with a thundering Ford Header, which Made it 5-4. The Green Turned it on and cranked up the pressure for the last 10 minutes but it just wasn't enough.

Milford Green F.C. v Witley Wanderers F.C.
24th August 2008
This pre-season game was always going to be a test for ' the Green', the fans were eagerly awaiting this game, they were facing a classy Div 2 side who hold a wealth of experience and skill. The players before the game looked almost anxious to start Kevin Akton resumed his Milford green career in the same old fashion.....confusion!, when asked about his summer break he replied 'Gooooood!' when asked where he'd been when training was on he replied 'Training?' when asked about the website he said website?!', but all was well when he was suited up and ready to go, and touched a football and it all came flooding back to him, he remembered he was a footballer, he dropped to his knees, thanked God and a small tear slid from his right duct! (If he'd of know what was about to occur in this game he might have prayed harder and saved his tears for the end of the Game). Any how many fans and more importantly manager Kevin Dalton were happy to have there front man Back.
Many of the New signings Milford Green bought in this year were unelligable to play at the weekend due to some twisted rule the club created on the day as an excuse as to why they weren't there. Simply put the players were actually bribed by the opposisition with a group gain of 1 KFC family bucket and a size 40 chechnian stripper seeking a visa, the food was destroyed by resident fatboy Ollie Cummings which may also explain a distinct lack of goals, and Kristian Boxall took the stripper, until Cummings ate her as well when he misheard, when asked about it he had this to say'I thiought they said Chicken Dipper!'. The rest of the squad could understandably feel rather empty handed.
Anyway the Game commenced and Milford Green made somewhat of a slow start within 30 seconds they were a goal down, the ball played back to midfielder Dan Pollard who lost possesion (first Game Nerves) and gave Wanderers a platform upon which they could Carve Milford to pieces.
The Next twenty minutes were suprisingly competetive with Milford Green having the Run of Play and piling on the pressure through their right and left wings. Against the run of play Witley took a 3-0 lead and hope seemed To be Slipping away from milford Green When Front man Kevin Akton whipped in a dead ball at the near post which was graciously netted by Lee 'dangerous' Davis. When he celebrated he looked like he just one the lottery, the remaining squad started licking there lips as they new what was coming now the Skipper had Scored.......Champagne!
At this point hope was restored for about 5 minutes, Witley made it 5-1 at half time, due to some fantastic Linesmaning by Phil Bishop who was auditioning moments before the game for the role of Tin Man in 'the Wizard of Oz', the rain however rusted his arm down and he couldn't raise his flag, he did however get the part so congratulations to Phil. In all Fairness the milford green defense had looked stronger the line was flat and the offside trap they'd bought form B&Q was a dud, Witley had chance upon chance in the first half.
The Second half was pretty much a carbon copy of the First utter domination, leading to a scorline NASA had trouble working out.
All in all this was a disappointing start to Milford Greens campaign however there were positives that came out of the game, the Milford green game looked to flow better, especially on the RARE ocassion they got forward. They looked the better side for twenty minutes against a side who did embarrass but should have destroyed. Strong performances from, Jason Norris and Man of The Match Scott Gifford can be taken as positives. This game was ultimately a big midfield battle and i don't think that this Milford Midfield was able to cope with the pressure applied and the game wasn't broken down enough.
